Popsart - My two top picks for the Brisbane Festival Laser Beak Man and Orpheous

Popsart - My two top picks for the Brisbane Festival Laser Beak Man and Orpheous

My pick of the Brisbane festival so far is Laser Beak Man presented by La boite Theatre and the Dead Puppets Society. In a cynical age when everyone bemoans it’s all been done before and there are no original ideas this show smashes through that notion with a blue caped crusader who doesn’t speak and shoots laser from his nose. I attended the Opening night and captured the jubilant responses from the audience post show.

On the TV this morning on the TODAY show, two of our four New York actors Maren Searle and Jon Riddleberger with puppets, introduced Australia to the characters Evil Emily and the black sheep two of the characters from the Laser Beak Man stage extravaganza. I tell you the buzz for this show is nationwide. Across Australia the excitement is growing. Tickets still available for Dead Puppet Society Laser Beak Man for this season La Boite Theatre Company as part of the Brisbane Festival Tim was thrilled to see his creation on the TV.

Scenestr Review Laser Beak Man the theatre production

'Laser Beak Man' is truly innovative theatre and unlike anything you’ll have seen before. It is charming, funny, visually compelling and technically jaw-dropping. Yet its greatest achievement is conveying without speech the character of Laser Beak Man who is mute. https://scenestr.com.au/arts/laser-beak-man-la-boite-theatre-review-20170916

The Daily Bulletin reviews Laser Beak Man the stage production

Seamless transitions between scenes, and between media, were attended by the furious pitter-patter of the puppeteers, as video imagery, animation, music and song swung us into a dynamic world of shifting perspectives and heady flights. Much kudos must go to the designers, director, producers, fabricators, managers, dramaturgs and others in greasing the cogs of such a well-oiled machine. http://www.dailybulletin.com.au/the-conversation/33206-laser-beak-man-busts-the-fourth-wall-and-blows-minds-with-superheroic-puppetry

Review in the Australian Laser Beak Man by Dead Puppet Society

Review in the Australian Laser Beak Man by Dead Puppet Society

Today in the Australian review of the opening of the stage production of Laser Beak Man by David Morton Nicholas Paine Tim Sharp. Take a visual artist with an uplifting life story, add a pop band with a gift for melodic hooks, and put them together with a puppet company blessed with a compelling artistic vision and appetite for hard work. The result is Dead Puppet Society’s embarrassment-of-riches stage realisation of Tim Sharp’s Laser Beak Man, a visually splendid, highly entertaining and ultimately moving celebration of community and the inherent value of each individual within it.
