Scenestr Review Laser Beak Man the theatre production

'Laser Beak Man' is truly innovative theatre and unlike anything you’ll have seen before. It is charming, funny, visually compelling and technically jaw-dropping. Yet its greatest achievement is conveying without speech the character of Laser Beak Man who is mute. https://scenestr.com.au/arts/laser-beak-man-la-boite-theatre-review-20170916

Review in the Australian Laser Beak Man by Dead Puppet Society

Review in the Australian Laser Beak Man by Dead Puppet Society

Today in the Australian review of the opening of the stage production of Laser Beak Man by David Morton Nicholas Paine Tim Sharp. Take a visual artist with an uplifting life story, add a pop band with a gift for melodic hooks, and put them together with a puppet company blessed with a compelling artistic vision and appetite for hard work. The result is Dead Puppet Society’s embarrassment-of-riches stage realisation of Tim Sharp’s Laser Beak Man, a visually splendid, highly entertaining and ultimately moving celebration of community and the inherent value of each individual within it.

Financial Review all about Laser Beak Man

Today in the Financial Review the whole of Australia is paying attention to this incredible show as it develops into something bigger than we all could possibly imagine...some of the article ...".Laser Beak Man promises to be a riotous show" In an interview with Brisbane Festival director Mr. David Berthold . "Many Australians are already familiar with the character Laser Beak Man, the offbeat comic superhero who is the brainchild of Brisbane artist Tim Sharp. Sharp's story is well known, thanks to television and radio interviews and his mother Judy's book Double Shot of Happiness, in which she recounts how she was advised to institutionalise him after he was diagnosed with severe autism at age three. Ignoring that advice, she introduced him to art, and the rest is wonderful, colourful history. A co-production between the festival, La Boite Theatre Company and Dead Puppet Society, Laser Beak Man is a riotous night in the theatre following the superhero's quest to save Power City and safeguard his special powers from destruction. The visual theatre work is brought alive by 30 puppets from the New York-based Brisbane puppetry outfit, with a live score composed and performed by Sam Cromack of Brisbane indie band Ball Park Musicand two band mates, cutting-edge digital imagery and drone-like AirOrbs the size of beach balls. "It's been gloriously collaborative," says Berthold. "Tim and Judy have been there every step of the way, from the development in New York after a philanthropist paid for them to be there, to Tim having the final say to all sorts of things. "This isn't a show that has anything to do with autism. It's a brilliant, funny superhero story with amazing puppets and great music." Sam Cromack of Ball Park Music has written the music for Laser Beak Man theatre production

Eyo, Sam here. Dunno if you know but for the last 3-4 years I’ve been working with Brisbane artist Tim Sharp and Bris/NYC-based puppet mavericks Dead Puppet Society on a stage show called Laser Beak Man. I’ve been lucky enough to travel between here and NYC developing the show and it’s finally ready to hold its premiere season here in Brisbane at La Boîte Theatre Company this September. I’ve written the original score and I’ll be performing it in every show with Daniel and Dean as well as a good friend of ours, Luke Moseley. The show is insane. I’ve never done anything like it. It’s gonna be rad!
